When I come across this saying in the Bible as a teenager (aged 8), I wondered what would have made the the first man (Adam) ever created by God to be naked (Gen. 3:10). I needed someone to explain that saying but for my age, nobody was ready to dissect the meaning of nakedness, maybe, they were trying to save me from myself, as that was what I thought.
As time went by, I figured out that all men (women) are naked. I discovered that until you are clothed with the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ, you are naked no-matter how gorgeous you may have dressed. You may clothe yourself in silk, velvet; lace, ankara, brocade, wool, aso-oke, or what have you, yet I say you are naked.
All who refused to wear the clothing that only God can bestow on His people is naked. With the claim of worshiping God, but not ornamented with the Holy Spirit of God, then such a person is still naked.
If you claim to be born-again (for that is the requirement of God for whosoever wants to see the Kingdom of God (John 3:3); but yet, you indulge in sinful act of whatever nature, such a person is unclothed, hence, you are very naked.
For the eyes of God does not behold sin hence all sinners are naked as they are not clothed with the righteousness of God (Habakkuk 1:13; Isaiah 59: 1-2).
If I claim to be clothed by Jesus Christ, but indulge in frivolities, backbite, stealing or even become covetous, sorry, no matter the ordination or title that may have been bestowed on me, I am naked.
God does not respect anybody who indulges in sin no matter how such a person evangelizes, worships, pays tithe, works in the vineyard of the Lord in whatever capacity, cares for the needy, loves his or her neighbor, but he or she still indulges in iniquities, all the works are vane and such a person is naked (Matthew 7:23).
How then can anyone be clothed and his or her nakedness be covered?
When one understands that he or she is not pleasing God, that is the first step to one retracing his or her steps back to God, for unclean nature of man, makes him naked (Isaiah 64: 6);
When one realizes why Christ Jesus was used a atonement for the sins of the world as He freely and willingly offered Himself to remove our nakedness with His own blood and cover us with His own spirit (2Corinthians 5:21);
Once whosoever wants to be clothed in the Christ realized that the Lord Jesus is righteous (Jeremiah 23: 6);
Have faith in God for that is when you will be able to abide in all His principles (Hebrews 11:6);
And he or she starts to pursue righteousness no matter how difficult it may seem to be while seeking the help of God to be steadfast in the pursuit;
Seek the presence of God always both spiritually and physically (1Chronicles 15:11);
Start working and continually work in the Spirit of God alone without waiting for reward from any human, that is, doing all that make up the fruit of the spirit without being hypocritical or eye-service in the doing and in the fear of the Lord, while leaving in gentleness and rightly (Galatians 5: 22-23; Proverbs 9:10; James 3:13; Galatians 6: 10; 1John 3:17);
When God redeemed one from one’s iniquities with the atonement done by Christ Jesus, and whosoever believeth in Him and live Christ will automatically be clothed with righteousness and no longer naked.
Such a person’s prayer life must not be when able but with dedication and commitment and giving thanks to God in all situations (I Thessalonians 5: 17-18);
When all the above have been achieved and attained in truth, just as the book of Colossians 3: 5-14 said and I quote “Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
”Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
”Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all and is in all. Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity”.
When you attain all the above, then you would be clothed with the fine linen that is bright and clean because your nakedness has been covered with righteousness (Revelations 19: 8; Job 28:14; Isaiah 61:10; Isaiah 59:17).
And the Lord will then say to all that are once naked but are now clothed with the righteousness of God thus “See, I have taken your iniquities away from you and will clothe you with festal robes,” Zechariah 3:4c.
And once we have decided not to soil the garments that we are clothed in by God, we will walk with Him in white for that is worthy (Revelations 3: 4).
I pray, all nakedness of all the sheep in the folds of God be covered with purity, amen.
