Prince Arthur Eze and 50 traditional rulers in Anambra State have paid a solidarity visit to the suspended traditional ruler of Ukwulu, Peter Uyanwa.
The supporters described the suspension as an attempt by Anambra State Government led by Gov. Willie Obiano, to intimidate the traditional institution while performing their assigned functions.
Speaking at the palace of the suspended Igwe Uyanwa, Prince Eze advised Gov. Obiano to desist from the road he was traveling and address the alleged diversion of local government funds and entitlements due to the traditional rulers, the judiciary, former local government chairmen and councillors in the State.
He warned that if Gov. Obiano failed to retrace his steps, they might likely cause President Buhari to seize the local government allocations due to Anambra State if the misappropriation was discovered by the President.
In his own speech, the suspended Igwe Peter Uyanwa however saw the suspension as a joke, arguing that the Governor might not be aware of the suspension.
Uyanwa maintained that apart from his personal relationship with Gov. Obiano, he was law abiding in his conducts. He attributed his suspension to his support to President Buhari’s alleged development projects for the Igbo nation which Eze applauded. The suspended Monarch explained that there was nothing wrong in his associating with Prince Arthur Eze.
HRH, Igwe Godwin Mbakwe, who is the traditional ruler of Abacha, accused the State Government of attempting to trample on the rights of traditional rulers in the State.
Igwe Abacha cautioned that subordinates of Gov. Obiano would mislead the State Government away to take wrong decisions that would be regretted later. He submitted that commissioners had no power to control traditional rulers.
It would be recalled that the State Government through the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C. Don Adinuba on Friday, July 24, 2020, announced the suspension of the traditional ruler of Ukwulu who was also the Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Anambra Central zone.
Part of the suspension announcement said, ”Following a series of petitions against the traditional ruler of Ukwulu in Dunukofia Local Government Area from many people in Ukwulu and elsewhere who want to forestall an impending huge crisis in the community, the Anambra State Government has decided to suspend Mr. Peter Uyanwa as the Igwe of Ukwulu for one year with effect from Friday, July 24, 2020, in the first instance.
”His Certificate of Recognition as Igwe is also withdrawn with immediate effect. Consequently, Chief Uyanwa can no longer function as the Chairman of the Traditional Rulers’ Council, Anambra Central zone.”
