CHRISTIAN UNITY FOOTBALL COMPETITION OPENS IN UMUGAMA, UMUCHU.

Centre of attraction in the entire Umuchu community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State during this festive period will be Umugama Village. A special football competition among four major christian denominations in the community has been scheduled. The sponsor, Mr. Nzube Uduonu (Ebube Nwa n’Umuchu), initiated what he called ‘Christian Unity (Football) Competition in order to reunite Agama people irrespective of differences in denominations.

According to James Iloamaeke (Jamila), Social Secretary of Umugama Community Assembly, the peace football competition will be among the Catholic Church, the Anglican Church, Salvation Army Faithfuls and the Pentecostals, all from the Umugama community. The sponsor believes in love which brings about progress, for where there is progress, according to him, there will be development and inventions. With powerful force of unity inherent in football sports, the unnecessary separations between and among blood brothers in the village would be arrested..

”To be frank, since last year 2019 he initiated this program, Umugama has recorded high level of unity & development as it was in the days of Late HRH Igwe I.O.Offorbuike, Ezeora 1 of Umuchu,” Mr Iloamaeke remarked while appealing to football enthusiasts within Umuchu and environs to entroop enmass everyday of the tournament with friends, families, etc to enjoy the fiesta in Umugama.

The schedules of the tournament have been released. There are four teams grouped into A and B. Under Group A, we have Catholic Team coordinated by Mr. Martin Offorjimba (Yabu Yabu) and Pentecostals Team coordinated by Hon. Victor Umeh, whereas in Group B we have Anglicans Team coordinated by Mr. Joachiam Uduonu & Salvation Army Team coordinated by Chimaobi Umeodinigwe.

Group A will start the 1st match on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 by 7:00 am. The 2nd match will take place by 4:00 pm evening of the same day. The losers in the both groups A and B will meet themselves to compete for 3rd position on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 by 4:00pm.

As for the final, the winners in the both groups will lock horns to know which is superior, and this will open the new year of 2021. It will take place on Friday, January 1, 2021 by 4:0pm in the evening. All the matches, according to the Social Secretary, Jamila, will be played at the Umuchu High School football field.
