In a strategic move to propel the state’s development, Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto of Sokoto State has presented a whopping N270 billion budget to the State House of Assembly for consideration, emphasizing its theme as the “Budget of Hope and Resilience.”

Addressing the assembly members at the state house of assembly complex, Governor Sokoto outlined the intricacies of the proposed budget, highlighting key allocations and revenue sources. The governor emphasized that the budget was crafted in alignment with the views of the masses, reflecting his administration’s nine-point agenda.

Breaking down the figures, the governor disclosed that the statutory allocation from the federation account is estimated at N138.93 billion, while internally generated payments contribute N37.09 billion to the total revenue, bringing it to N176.01 billion. The budget includes an opening balance of N13.31 billion, capital receipts, aids, and grants totaling N14.40 billion, and capital development funds standing at N60.38 billion.

Governor Sokoto detailed the allocation of funds across various sectors, with education taking the lead at N42.87 billion, followed by health with N31.01 billion. Other notable allocations include N18.81 billion for the Ministry of Works and Transportation, N10.25 billion for agriculture, N9.91 billion for the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and N9.24 billion for water resources.

The governor urged the State House of Assembly’s cooperation in swiftly passing the budget to ensure its implementation by January 2024. He expressed gratitude to development partners and civil servants for their contributions to the budget’s preparation.

In response, the speaker of the State House of Assembly, Tukur Bala, assured the governor of the assembly’s commitment to diligently work on the budget, aligning their efforts with the governor’s ambitious nine-point agenda for the benefit of the people of Sokoto State.
