Gov Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has sworn-in nine commissioners who are loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. They are now part of the State Executive.
The newly sworn-in commissioners were Zacchaeus Adangor, Jacobson Mbina, Gift Worlu, Inime Chinwenwo-Aguma and Chukwuemeka Woke. Others were Chinedu Mmom, George-Kelly Alabo, Isaac Kamalu and Austin Chioma.
The commissioners had in December 2023 resigned their appointments during the political crisis that engulfed the State after Governor Fubara fell out with his predecessor Nyesom Wike over the control of the State’s political structure.
President Bola Tinubu intervened at height of the crisis and directed Governor Fubara to reabsorb the nine commissioners who resigned for peace to reign.
Therefore, in compliance to the president’s directives, the commissioners who were earlier screened and confirmed for the second time by the Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly on January 17, 2024, were sworn-in as members of the State Executive Council (SEC).
In his speech after the swearing in ceremony at the State Executive Council, Government House, Port Harcourt on Friday, Gov Fubara admonished the newly sworn in commissioners to engage in activities for which they would be positively remembered by posterity. He added that he had no grudge against them.
“I wish you well in your coming back. Stand for justice, and stand for the interests of our dear state. That is the purpose of your appointment and that is the truth.
“I can see how heavy your hearts are. But I assure you that I don’t have anything against any of you. You were caught in between during the crossfire.
“I will advise that you give your best. Like I said the first time, let this State and posterity remember you for what is good,” the Governor further advised them.
