With the elections of chairmen and councilors into positions of authority and leadership in the 21 local government areas in Anambra State, a concerned indigene of Amanuke, Awka North LGA, Nwakanwa Okoye, calls all the aspiring chairmen and councilors to follow the path of credibility, integrity and character to their victory at the polls.

As the forthcoming local government elections in Anambra State draw near, involving the contests for both Local Government Chairpersons and Ward Councillors, it is vital to send this open letter to all aspirants across various political parties. This election season is a defining moment for our communities, and it is imperative that every aspirant understands that success is not built on political manipulation or reliance on external influences. Rather, the true path to victory lies in character, credibility, and a proven track record of service.

In any democratic process, the cornerstone of victory is the trust of the people. This trust is earned, not through underhanded strategies or aligning oneself with undemocratic practices, but through a transparent and convincing demonstration of capability and integrity. Some may be tempted to rely on the governor’s statements regarding the restoration of previously appointed leaders or other political assurances, but this must be avoided. With the passing of the law by the National Assembly granting local government autonomy and affirming ward councillors as part of the legislative arm, the power now firmly rests with the people.

What matters most in this election is not political shortcuts but your ability to humbly and convincingly show that you are a candidate who embodies credibility and can genuinely deliver. The people need leaders they can trust, leaders who have demonstrated their worth through actions, not words. They want verifiable records of achievement, proof of past dedication, and clear plans for the future. This election is not about the governor’s influence or any outside intervention, it is about the people’s choice.

To all aspirants, I urge you not to give up on your quest for leadership. The road may be difficult, and challenges may abound, but perseverance is a hallmark of true leaders. It is essential that you focus on winning the confidence of the electorate by showcasing your integrity and commitment to their welfare. If, despite your hard work, you find yourself unjustly denied the victory you rightfully earned, remember that the courts remain the final recourse. The judiciary serves as the last hope for justice in our democratic system, and with integrity, they will uphold what is right.

This local government election is a chance for us to choose leaders based on transparency, accountability, and a genuine commitment to community development. We are not voting for the governor’s orders or preferences. We are voting for a future rooted in good governance, responsibility, and the collective good of our communities.

Aspirants, I implore you to remain steadfast. Some of you may indeed be the long-awaited messiahs who will transform our local governments for the better. The journey ahead may be tough, but it is in times of challenge that true leaders emerge. You are the ones with the potential to shape the future of your communities and leave a lasting legacy of positive change.

In conclusion, this election is a defining moment for the future of Anambra State’s local governance. The people are ready to vote for leaders who are credible, who possess integrity, and who are truly committed to the well-being of the people. As an aspirant, your role is not merely to win a seat; it is to win the trust and confidence of the people through your actions and dedication. Let this be your focus as we move forward into this historic election season. Your resilience, determination, and adherence to democratic principles will determine your place in the future of our communities.

This is your moment to lead, to inspire, and to effect meaningful change. Do not let it slip away.
