Anambra State Police Command has taken proactive measures to avoid traffic at both first and second Niger bridges in Onitsha.

The proactive strategy was to address traffic congestions in the State, especially at the old and new Niger Bridge during and after this yuletide period. To achieve this, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam initiated a joint operation with the Anambra State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Delta State Police Command.

A joint inspection of the two bridges to assess security situation of the area was conducted by both CP Itam of Anambra State Police Command, CP Olufemi Surajudeen Abaniwonda and Anambra State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Joyce Alexander.

ABDUCTED ANAMBRA BOY RESCUED IN KOGI STATE

In another development, the Anambra State Police Command has called on the general public, particularly residents of Onitsha and Ihiala environs, to assist with the identification of one Mr Chibuike Damian Onyebuchi (M) aged 15 years. The said boy who hails from Ihiala LGA, Anambra State was abducted in Onitsha but was found recently in Kogi State. He is currently in the safe custody of the Kogi State Police Command.

During an interview with Damian by the Police Operatives, he alleged that he was abducted in Onitsha by unidentified persons and taken to an unknown place before his escape.
Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Awka, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, therefore seeks public assistance to disseminate information for possible identification and unification with his family.


ANAMBRA STATE POLICE COMMAND ARRESTS THREE SUSPECTED CULTISTS/SECURITY OPERATIVE, IMPOSTERS: RECOVER ONE AUTOMATIC PUMP ACTION GUN

In the early hours of Wednesday, 18th December 2024, operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad of the Nigerian Police Enugwu Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State arrested one Chidi Ekwesiri (M) aged 50 years from Umunya, Oyi LGA and two others. They also recovered one automatic pump action gun and a Police uniform from the suspects.

The operatives spotted the suspect while on surveillance patrol along the Onitsha – Enugu Expressway by UNIZIK temporary site, Awka. During interrogations, the suspect claimed to be a Sergeant and a serving member of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos but later denied his earlier claim. He also confessed that the gun was given to him by a yet to be identified man at Ukpo in Dunukofia LGA of Anambra State.

Further information from the suspect led to the arrest of two other suspects who are currently undergoing Police interrogation.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has directed the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka for a comprehensive investigation. The suspects will be charged to Court on conclusion of the investigations.
