In the face of devastating floods that ravaged Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area, affecting approximately 21,862 people and causing significant economic hardship, Hon. Okey Joe Onuakalusi, a member representing Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency II, has emerged as a shining example of effective leadership and compassion.
Hon. Okey Joe Onuakalusi’s remarkable leadership qualities have been a beacon of hope for Oshodi-Isolo constituents. His tireless efforts led to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) providing relief materials, alleviating the suffering and economic hardship caused by the flooding.
Sometime last year, NEMA officials, conducted an on-the-spot assessment in collaboration with community leaders, in Oshodi-Isolo. This joint effort enabled the agency to gather firsthand information on the extent of the damage, identify the most pressing needs of the affected population, and develop targeted interventions to alleviate their sufferings.

By engaging with community leaders, NEMA officials were able to gain valuable insights into the local context, including the specific challenges faced by the residents, the existing social support structures, and the most effective channels for delivering aid. This community-centered approach ensured that the relief efforts were tailored to the unique needs of the affected populations, maximizing their impact and effectiveness.
The assessment also highlighted the importance of collaboration and coordination among different stakeholders in responding to disasters. By working together, NEMA officials, community leaders, and other partners were able to leverage their collective expertise, resources, and networks to deliver a more comprehensive and sustainable response to the flooding crisis.
Ultimately, the on-the-spot assessment and subsequent relief efforts demonstrated the government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable populations in times of crisis. By prioritizing the needs of affected residents and working collaboratively with community leaders, NEMA and other stakeholders helped to mitigate the impact of the flooding, promote recovery, and build resilience in the face of future disasters.
