A confirmed outbreak of diphtheria has been reported in Mbutu, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.
To prevent the spread, the government has warned parents, guardians, churches, schools to consider safety and health of the children as first before any other priority. It therefore advised for the need for vigilance and swift medical response
Currently there is a voice note in circulation in WhatsApp warning of the sickness in town. The information warns parents to monitor their children and to rush them to any nearby hospital if they notice any sign of fever, sour throat, or the child finds it hard to swallow food.
It reports that it goes to children between the ages of one to ten to thirteen years. It is alleged that all schools in Aboh Mbaise have been shut down to avoid the epidemic spreading to other children and areas in the State.
