The former President of Nigerian Bar Association, (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba has stated that the 36 state governors in the country are not doing anything.
He made this on Friday, 13th June, 2025, during Channels Television’s programme ‘Politics Today.” According to the legal luminary who is Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, ”All they (the governors) do is go toAbuja and collect a stipend every month.
“There are 250 million Nigerians hoping for a good government. So I can only wish that the President (Bola Tinubu) would do far more than he has done in trying to give Nigeria a sense of direction, a sense of development.

”The 774 local government, the 36 state governors, don’t do anything. All they do is go to Abuja and collect a stipend every month. I want to see President Tinubu assign responsibility by devolving political authority to these other tiers of government so that development can come bottom up, not top down, and in that way, people will benefit from the dividends.”
The spirit is the same. What Dr Agbakoba wants to see is a progressive Nigeria in every nook and cranny in all areas, in all sectors of the economy of the country. And this is exactly the purpose of setting up the Cup of Peace Competition, CPC.
CPC is a program in which every state in Nigeria brings out the best in her for Nigerians to enjoy, to lift up and add rich values to humanity. It is designed to make our leaders responsible, accountable and responsive to the yearnings of the citizens. The governed are also involved. Their role is to monitor those in government and report their excesses and feats. By going on strike is to disrupt the economy of the state. So the masses that do that have their state to lose. The longer their strike or protest or demonstration lasts, the more the state that hosts it loses. These are preventive issues that we must engage in no matter whoever that mobilizes or rents the crowd.

By implementing CPC, insecurity of lives and property in the country will reduce if not be eliminated because all those concerned will no longer shirk their responsibilities. Gross lack of trust between the government and the governed will be a thing of the past.
CPC profiles states on crimes and criminalities. Which state in Nigeria leads in such crimes as kidnapping, drug trafficking, human trafficking, production of fake, adulterated goods, armed robbery, election rigging, exam malpractice, oil bunkering, etc etc.
At the moment, it is the mock form of the competition that has been going on since June 2025. The essence is to create enough awareness for the competition, to sensitize the masses, the citizens so that all will be carried along. The real competition will start in October 2025.
Each state has a seed mark or inherited mark of 1000 from which they can add or substract marks in order to win or lose in the competition. The state that has the highest mark becomes the winner. The trophy will be given to the state governor who created the enabling environment for the state to win. The cash of one billion Naira will be given to the masses of the state especially the physically challenged, the widows and the orphans. So we need accurate data on these communities in every state in the country.

States can win more marks to recover lost ones through the performance of the citizens in the country, in Africa and outside Africa. To be the best in Nigeria, in Africa or in the world, the citizen attracts 10, 20 or 30 marks respectively to the state where she or he comes from. However, the same thing, though on the negative, goes when the citizen is involved in crimes like stealing, drug trafficking, human trafficking, etc that reduce the integrity of our country Nigeria.
