SPECIAL CASE
Sokoto State is widely considered the poorest in Nigeria when it comes to infrastructure development. It faces severe issues like poor roads, limited electricity, weak healthcare, and inadequate schools, all worsened by insecurity and harsh climate. Taraba, Yobe, and Zamfara also struggle, but Sokoto tops the list for underdeveloped infrastructure.
WHAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS DOING TO IMPROVE THINGS
The Nigerian government is really ramping up infrastructure development under President Tinubu, with a record N4.06 trillion set aside in the 2025 budget for roads, highways, railways, energy, and urban renewal. There’s a big push for public-private partnerships, green projects, and reviving stalled developments, plus new policies to attract private investment and make project funding easier. While these efforts are promising, challenges like corruption, security, and maintenance still slow things down, especially in poorer states like Sokoto.
